Description
RECOGNITION AFTER DEATH, written in 1889, by Reverend J. Aspinwall Dodge, D.D. In this excellent book, Rev. Dodge puts forth his thoughts and beliefs regarding life after death, and the ability of souls for recognition of their loved ones. In 184 pages, Rev. Dodge examines the topics of Immortality and Recognition, Objections Examined, Methods of Recognition, Recognition by Sight, Recognition by Character, Recognition by Other Means, Resurrection Body, and more.
A few excerpts: “With the certainty of immortality has always been associated the conviction that disembodied souls recognize each other. Indeed these two thoughts go together.”
“ . . . those who believe in immortality, naturally and very generally hold that after the death of the body we shall possess and exercise, at least, the same mental and spiritual faculties that we do now, that we shall know each other, and shall communicate and co-operate.”
Frequent references to Scripture are used to back up the case presented by Rev. Dodge. “Indeed every allusion in Scripture to the state of the soul after death, and especially the whole book of Revelation, assumes and declares that recognition is a fact, and is essential to the enjoyment of the redeemed in heaven. “
Rev. J. Aspinwall Dodge graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1851 and Princeton Theological Seminary in 1856. He served as Pastor at the First Presbyterian Church in Hartford, Conn., for 26 years. He later served as Professor at Lincoln University in Oxford, Pa., until his death. He is also the author of several books, including The Ruling Elder at Work and What Is Presbyterian Law?
